Me: I still haven't received your 40% deposit as outlined in the contract. Could you please check with accounting to see if that check was cut.
Client: Mmm, I can't guarantee we can still give you that deposit anymore.
Me: That was clearly outlined in our contract.
Client: Contracts are just paper.
Me: I'll have wait to begin work on the project once the deposit is received.
Client: YOU CAN'T DO THAT. YOU ARE HOLDING OUR PROJECT HOSTAGE!
Me: No, you are holding our deposit hostage.
